Bern, Switzerland, is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. It’s laid-back and lovely, from the covered arcades to the fact that it’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site. When compared to the other main capitals of Europe, Bern’s size and atmosphere are rather unique. In this article, you will know about Bern, and what to do or visit in Bern.

Interesting Features of Bern

Many first-time visitors to Bern are taken aback by the city’s picturesque location. The Swiss city of Bern is situated atop a sandstone hill, with the valley on three sides and the river Aare running through the centre. Both the city’s older neighbourhoods and the modern ones on the right bank are connected to the rest of the metropolis by means of high-rise bridges.

The arcades and soaring roofs of Bern’s 17th and 18th century homes and businesses are a visual representation of the city’s affluence. And because of how seamlessly the ancient town’s attractive character has been woven into modern life, UNESCO has designated it as a World Heritage Site.

Bern is a cultural hub with festivals happening all year long, including the Summer and Winter Jazz Festivals, the Buskers Festival, and the Gurtenfestival in the middle of July. The Zytglogge, a mediaeval clock tower with moving puppets, is only one of the many attractions that can be seen by walking through the city’s streets.

Must Visit or Must Do in Bern, Switzerland

Visit the Old Town of Bern

Bern’s historic district justifiably boasts World Heritage Site designation. The ancient town is perched on a rock overlooking the emerald waters of the Aare River, and it looks almost exactly how it did in mediaeval times. The long stretches of cobblestone streets are framed by arcades of covered walkways. Apartments occupy the top floors of the buildings, while retail and service establishments occupy the ground floor.

All of the Aare bridges, public fountains, antique sculptures, towers, and the world-famous Clock Tower can be found in this historic district. It’s possible to while away many days contentedly just exploring the historic district.

Enjoy and have a fascinating experience at Bern Fountains

Around 100 public fountains may be found around Bern. Many of them have fascinating backstories, and some even provide free water to parched tourists.

Only the eleven Renaissance-style fountains in the heart of the city are truly well-known. These fountains were created in the 16th century and are credited to Swiss artist Hans Gieng. All of them have a pedestal with a multicoloured sculpture above them.

Historical figures like Moses (Mosesbrunnen) and symbolic figures like Lady Justice stand alongside sculptures depicting prominent Bern citizens. The second kind is seen from the summit of the Gerechtigkeitsbrunnen (Fountain of Justice). These ornate stone fountains were constructed to replace the city’s earlier wooden ones. The residents relied on them as a gathering spot and source of news because of the vital role they played in the community. Even now, they serve as the city’s focal points for everything from political rallies to Christmas markets and it is easier to get a Credit Loan in Switzerland in Bern.

Travel to the Einstein’s Apartment

Stopping at Einstein’s former apartment can provide you some good additional insight into his life if you’ve previously visited the Einstein Museum. Between 1903 and 1905, Albert Einstein, his scientist wife Mileva Maric, and their young son Hans occupied this flat on the building’s second story. The flat has been furnished with original pieces from the historical period, so visitors can get a feel for what life was like for Einstein and his family while he worked on the paper that would permanently alter the scientific landscape. An informative and accessible display on Einstein’s life and work can be found on the building’s third level, explaining his scientific contributions in layman’s terms for the general public.

Important Note: Health Insurance is mandatory in Switzerland. As a result, you must use TipTop – Health Insurance Comparison and PrimApp – Health Insurance comparison in Switzerland. Both TipTop and PrimApp are the most popular tool online for health insurance comparison. Comparison on Tiptop and PrimApp is easy and quick.  To get the right price and know which health insurance will be suitable in Bern for your needs, you can use a health insurance comparison tool. It is the best way to get health insurance for you as well as your family.

Take a tour to Bern Cathedral

The Bern Cathedral, also known as Berner Münster or the Cathedral of St. Vincent, is in the center of the historic district. The Bern Cathedral, constructed beginning in the 15th century, stands as Switzerland’s highest religious structure.

The sandstone edifice is stunning, but the spectacular spire, which wasn’t finished until 1893, is the real show stopper. Its height exceeds 100 meters, and visitors can purchase admission to the very top, where they will face a dizzying 254 stairs.

Furthermore, the Cathedral’s interior offers a wealth of sights. The Last Judgement greets you as you go in. A group of sinners and saints, clothed and unclothed, are gathered around the Archangel Michael in these sculptures made of stone and wood. The stained glass windows are also remarkable, with the Matter Chapel’s “Dance of Death” standing out especially.

Spend Leisure and Relaxing time at Rosengarten

Rosengarten, with its stunning vistas of Bern, is one of the city’s most tranquil and lovely spots. Located across the river from the downtown area, the Rose Garden Park (Rosengarten) is a vast open space on a hillside. Before becoming a park in 1913, this location served as a cemetery (1765–1877).

After a makeover in the late 1950s, it is currently home to over 200 different varieties of roses, as well as irises, azaleas, and rhododendrons from the same number of different species. Along with the pavilion, the restaurant, and the picnic spots, there is a vast, beautiful pond.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Bren, the capital of Switzerland, is one of the most amazing places in the world. Make sure to visit the above-mentioned places to make your stay in Berlin worthwhile.
